“Go to the people. Live with them. Learn from them. Love them. Start with what they know. Build with what they have. But with the best leaders, when the work is done, the task accomplished, the people will say ‘We have done this ourselves.” — Lao Tzu
Katie was born and raised in rural Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she received a BA in Spanish and International Studies.
Postgrad, Katie planned to move to Thailand for 6-months but ended up staying for over three years because she fell in love with the land, people, and teaching. She attributes much of her passion for multi-cultural education, facilitation, and building cross-cultural connections to this experience. After Thailand, Katie helped a community-based organization in Tanzania develop community-led and sustainable education programs. She spent the next 6 years leading a training program that trained young professionals and organizations around the globe to turn their passion and ideas into scaleable impact. Katie moved to the Bay Area and received an MA in Human Rights Education in 2016. Katie uses community-centered and system thinking approaches in all of her work and loves being a connector. She considers herself a travel junkie and has lived and worked on 4 different continents. Katie loves the outdoors, playing with her nephews, finding off the beaten-path restaurants, live music, and the feeling of a new passport stamp. She’s a proud Illinoian and reps Chicago hard but can’t get enough of Northern California. |
