Announcing: New Accelerator for Creative Brands in Washington, D.C.

SEED SPOT is proud to announce a new partnership with Washington Area Community Investment Fund (Wacif), a Washington D.C. Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), to launch an exciting new business training program in September 2024 for creative entrepreneurs who have turned their talents into a revenue-generating retail business in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia area). Keep reading for three ways to get involved!

The Ascend Retail Business Accelerator for Fall 2024 supports creative retail brands and businesses such as independent clothing brands (urban/streetwear), small-scale manufacturers, and artists selling original pieces and creative products, through a holistic, 6-week program facilitated by SEED SPOT, a globally ranked accelerator for diverse, impactful entrepreneurs. Upon completion of the business training program, participants will be eligible to apply for grants through SEED SPOT’s Demo Day competition and receive support in applying for national small business certifications.

The hybrid in-person/virtual approach includes interactive online workshops, one-on-one consultations with business advisory support, access to business mentorship, and brand representation and sales opportunities at Wacif community events in the historic Anacostia neighborhood in Southeast Washington, D.C. A preference is given to ventures from or working in Wards 7 and 8 in business for at least three years and generating a minimum of $25,000 in annual sales. Key Features of the Business Training Program

The Wacif’s Ascend Retail Business Accelerator is grounded in the principles of “lean startup” methodology, emphasizing action and adaptability. Participants will dedicate 7-10 hours per week to the business training program, engaging in workshops, assignments, and mentor meetings designed to enhance their business operations and increase their impact:

• Business Foundations: Entrepreneurs will develop a flexible, intuitive business model that aligns with their goals and market opportunities.
  
• Brand Strategy & Positioning: Participants will receive expert guidance on creating a consistent and compelling brand presence, with a focus on e-commerce and digital branding.
  
• Unlocking Additional Revenue Streams: The program will help businesses discover new sales channels, manufacturing solutions, and partnerships to drive growth.
  
• Retail Expert Guidance: Entrepreneurs will learn from established brands and industry leaders about navigating the complex retail landscape.
  
• Financial Management: Practical advice on financial planning and raising non-predatory capital will be provided to ensure the long-term sustainability of their ventures.
  
• Customer Engagement: Opportunities to participate in pop-ups and community events will allow businesses to connect directly with potential customers and partners.
